Beaumaris Castle, Wales

A few years ago I visited Beaumaris Castle while on holiday in Anglesey.

The castle was originally built as part of Edward I plan to take North Wales and was the castle in Wales to be built by him.  Work began in 1295.  Some say it’s the best example of medieval military architecture in Great Britain.

Over 2000 were employed to build the castle quickly.  However the English army’s attention soon focused on the Scots, with them becoming more resistant, adding to the fact that funds started to dry up meant that the castle was never fully finished.

The castle is reportedly haunted by ghosts that prefer to be heard, rather than seen. In the chapel, chanting has been heard. Screams have been reportedly heard throughout the castle. People have also stated to feeling watched and being overcome by feelings of loneliness.
